This might sound like a ridiculous question. But it’s a cousin to the limiting fear of success. You might be thinking, “No! I’m afraid of not having money!” But…
What would it mean for you if you actually had the financial resources and financial security that you think you want?
Here’s what made me think about this. I read in the local news that a man won $56 million in the Illinois Lottery, checked his ticket to find out he won, and then according to the store clerk:
“The gentleman basically falls to the floor, sits there for a few minutes, and then gets up,” Cue said. “He then starts sprinting towards the front door screaming, ‘I won, I won the Mega Millions.’ That happened on June 15, and we haven’t seen him since.”
You’ve likely heard that many Lottery winners end up penniless. One study showed that they are more likely to go bankrupt than the average American. They likely dreamed of hitting it big, but then seem to blow it all.
There are lots of reasons this happened. I think the main reason is they haven’t laid the groundwork for their financial success. I don’t just mean getting good investment and tax advice.
I’m talking about the internal groundwork to having money.
Beliefs like:
- Rich people are bad
- I don’t deserve to have money
- People will just want things from me if I have money
- I don’t know how to handle this
- This will change everything … maybe for the worse
- What will people think of me if I have a lot of money
Maybe you don’t play the lottery. Maybe you think – that wouldn’t be me! Or, perhaps there are other beliefs that are playing in the background that are making you a little afraid of bringing more money into your life or your business.
Identifying these mental blocks to your prosperity flow is the first step in moving through them.
