Making Crazy Coincidences Happen

Try this…

Isn’t it cool when you run into a friend in an unexpected place? Or when a series of seemingly random events leads to a great opportunity? I bet you can think of a time this happened to you.

I believe the more present we are and the clearer our intention the more often we experience synchronicities.

Here’s one that recently happened for me…

As I get ready to release my next book, Messages from Money: How to Stress Less, Prosper More, and Reshape Your Relationship with Money, I’ve been reaching out to podcasts to be a guest.

I’d been a fan of the Seeking Center Podcast for a while. When I looked to reach out to the hosts Robyn Brecker and Karen Loenser, I was having trouble finding contact information. When I went back to their site to look again I noticed my friend Lizzi Cutler (fabulous healer and coach) on their home page. I thought ‘that’s weird, how do they know Lizzi?’ Lizzi is in Chicago and these ladies are in LA.

I reached out to Lizzi for an introduction which she was happy to do. As I connected with Robyn and Karen I came to realize neither of them are in LA and Robyn actually lives in the Chicago area. Now things were making more sense. I then learn she actually lives 2 blocks away from me! That’s some spot on alignment if ever I saw it.

As we got to know each other they invited me to be on their podcast. It was a total blast and one of my all-time favorite interviews.

Why You Should Make Things Harder on Yourself

Have you ever noticed how you sometimes make things way more complicated than they need to be? We get caught up in old beliefs like believing that success only comes with backbreaking work and endless struggle. But what if it could be easy? That’s the question I ask myself whenever I seem to be overcomplicating things. I even have an “easy button” on my desk that I push when I catch myself making things more difficult.

But here’s the twist: sometimes, making things hard can be a good thing too. This got me thinking about the value of challenges in our personal and professional lives.

The Power of Making Things Harder

So, while making things easy is great, there’s something to be said about embracing challenges too. In a conversation I had with Callum McKirdy, a thought leader from Australia, he mentioned the benefits of making things hard; like biking up a big hill or running a marathon. It’s those challenging moments that push us beyond our limits and help us grow. Just like conquering that hill or crossing the finish line, tackling difficult goals in life or business can bring tremendous fulfillment and personal growth.

Avoidance is something many of us struggle with. We tend to avoid things that might hurt our happiness or hold us back from living our best lives. In a podcast episode by Mel Robbins featuring Dr. Luana Marques, a Harvard professor, they delved into the topic of avoidance. They highlighted how confronting the challenges we’ve been avoiding is vital for our overall well-being. It could be that phone call we’ve been putting off or that client we’ve been hesitant to reach out to. By facing these challenges head-on, we gradually build resilience and overcome the fear that holds us back.

I recently had a personal experience that made me rethink how I approach challenges. I’m currently working on my third book and, at first, I was making the writing process really hard (not the good kind). It’s time-consuming and can be quite challenging. However, I made a conscious decision to make it an enjoyable challenge. I shifted my mindset and found ways to make the process fun and rewarding. And you know what? It made a world of difference. Embracing a challenge doesn’t mean it has to suck. By finding joy in the journey, we stay motivated and increase our chances of success.

Comparing Your Business Success to Others?

Try this simple shift…

It is easy to fall into the trap of comparing your business success to others. I know for me it feels really awful when in the past instead of celebrating a big win for a friend I’d jump into comparing my business growth to theirs. Scarcity thinking for sure.

A cousin of this type of thinking is worrying about where the next piece of business will come from. It can happen easily and too much time being concerned or scared slows down the growth process.

Here’s a quick and effective shift to move from less stress to more success:

When you can come from the energy of serving, and know that you are deeply deserving, prosperity you’ll be observing.

It is a virtuous cycle. The trick is having your energy and focus on serving and deserving first.

When you are worried about your business…focus on serving and deserving.
When you are comparing yourself to others…focus on serving and deserving.
When you are wanting to grow your business…focus on serving and deserving.

You get the point.

When you shift your attention from worry to how your work deeply serves your clients and how you make a difference in their lives your results are destined to improve. Imagine being in a sales conversation and instead of having “I really need this sale” playing in your background thoughts, you have a thought like “Oh, my gosh this will be so helpful for you, and I’d just adore working with you!” Which energy do you think your prospect will respond better to?

Instead of planning around where will your next client come from, ask: ‘Who really needs my help right now?’

Don’t Make More Money Your Goal

Do This Instead

When I consult with financial advisors and other business owners the mistake I see over and over is having a certain dollar revenue amount as their goal. I’m not saying you don’t want revenue growth or to accumulate more money.

What I’m saying is that when a certain dollar amount is what you have your eye on, it might actually make it harder for you to get where you want to go.

What Energy are You Sending Out?

Be deliberate if you want to connect

What energy are you sending out when you meet with clients and prospects? Even if you think you’re covering up what you’re actually feeling, people will pick up on your energy.

There’s something called a fear pheromone. If you’re scared, people around you will pick up on this. They can almost smell it on you. I think this comes through on video as well.

One of my mentors, Lisa O’Neill, shares about creating an energetic invitation to prospects. She likens this to a Wi-Fi signal. What is the signal you are putting out there?

Are you conscious of what type of energy you want to bring to meetings? This is what will attract people to you and help them make the decision to work with you.

Here are some helpful types of personal energy you might want to focus on:

How can you be more aware of the energy you bring?

Being aware of the energy you bring to client meetings is crucial for establishing a positive first impression and building a strong relationship. Here are some ways to be more conscious of your energy:

Check in with yourself before the meeting: Take a few minutes to reflect on your mood, energy level, and mindset before the meeting. If you’re feeling stressed or anxious, take some deep breaths or do a quick mindfulness exercise to calm yourself down.
Pay attention to body language: Your body language can reveal a lot about your energy level and confidence. Make sure you are sitting up straight, maintaining eye contact, lean in, and avoiding fidgeting or slouching.
Practice active listening: Notice your client’s verbal and nonverbal cues and respond with empathy and curiosity.
Take breaks if needed: If you feel your energy starting to wane during the meeting, take a quick break to stretch or take a sip of water. This can help refresh your energy and keep you engaged.
Reflect on the meeting afterward: After the meeting, take a few minutes to reflect on your energy level and how you came across to the client. If you feel you could have brought more positive energy or enthusiasm, make a mental note to focus on this in future meetings.

When you’re more aware of your energy and take steps to manage it, you can build trust and deeper relationships with clients, and increase your chances of success.

Feeling Stress and Blaming Money?

Try this…

As I reviewed the edits for my next book (more on this soon!) I thought this activity might be helpful for you to have in your tool kit.

If you are experiencing a challenging financial situation, try this:

You’ll need a pen, paper, and five minutes of quiet time for this activity.
Think of a situation in which you blamed Money, another person, or yourself for a financial difficulty or challenge.
Take a moment to notice your breath. Feel the inhales and the exhales.
Set a timer for five minutes and use your pen and paper to complete one or more of the journal prompts below. This is only for you; so, don’t worry about what you are writing, just keep your pen moving.

Journal Prompts:

From this situation, I’ve learned or am learning…
When I think about this situation, I’m grateful for…
I am growing because of this situation in these ways…
The ways this situation could be a good thing are…

Blame can feel justified, but never moves you ahead. Moving through it can help you find solutions and learning to help you create more prosperity on purpose.

What’s Important Now?

Try this for more focus…

When I’m leading workshops I often share a three-breath practice I learned in my teacher training with the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI). It’s an easy way to get present and focused. I’ve had reports from people in my classes and those I work with that this is one of the best things they do to get ready for a meeting and get great results.

I’m now experimenting with a way to gain even more benefits on a daily basis using a practice I learned from a recent Greg McKeown podcast on transforming mental clutter to clarity.

Here’s the SIYLI three-breath practice:

First breath, notice the breath.
Second breath, relax the body.
Third breath, silently ask “what’s important now?”

If you think you don’t have time to meditate, I’m sure you have time for three breaths.

Greg McKeown is suggesting a daily practice of setting a timer for 6 minutes and journaling with the prompt:

What’s important now?
After the six minutes review the list and pick your 6 most important things
Prioritize your list
Write a few things that you are grateful for from the day before

I’ve been playing with this for a few days now and love the practice. I also add who should I be in touch with? to my list. This is a great way to tap into my intuition and has often led to new business. I’ve been recording my top 6 list using a note on my phone so I’ll have it in front of me during my day.

I do my gratitude practice differently. At the end of my longer morning meditations, I spend time thinking about what I am grateful for and then record three things I’m grateful for in my 5-Minute Journal.

What’s important now? Such a simple and profound question.
