As a “doer” it’s easy for me to go full speed and get sh*t done. Checking things off the list. I love it.
In the past few years, I haven’t done very well at taking breaks from work. Partly because I love what I’m doing so much it doesn’t feel like work. And then, due to Covid, we went from having travel as a top priority to getting way too used to spending time with our good friend Netflix.
As I write this I’m finishing up a three-week dream trip to Australia. If you missed my last post on how I created this trip you can read about it here.
Yes, part of the trip was work (again doesn’t feel like it) and this final week has been a vacation with our daughter Amy at the Top End of Australia.
As I’m getting ready to head home soon, I’m noticing how I’m mentally shifting to get back into my daily routine. Some of it feels welcome and other parts a little stressful.
I realize that this time away (the longest I’ve been away from work in about 30 years) has been amazing in so many ways. It’s also confirming my belief that…
Sometimes you need to slow down to speed up.
This is why I meditate. Even though I’m spending 20-40 minutes sitting in meditation, this break ultimately increases my focus and attention and I’m more efficient and effective. This is also why switching up your environment is so important.
I’m committing to more deliberate procrastination.
Pausing the doing.
Increasing the being.
This is the portal to the zone of creation.
It’s like letting the bread rise as you are baking. For the finished product to be amazing you need to take some breaks and let things rest.
To your peace and prosperity,
